General and Bariatric Surgery

It began its work in 2005, and during the first year of activities, 90 medium complexity surgeries were developed. Over time, different specialties were reorganized, allowing the sectorisation of benefits in various areas to be mentioned: Head and Neck Surgery, Thoracic Surgery, Esophageal and Gastric Surgery, Bariatric Surgery, Hepatobiliopancreatic Surgery, Coloproctologic Surgery, Wall and soft tissue Surgery, Peripheral Vascular Surgery, Oncological Surgery, Outpatient Surgery and Transplants, etc.. Thus increasing the number of highly complex services, more than 3500 procedures were performed.

Overall Objectives

• To provide high-quality human and professional services, for the resolution of surgical pathologies of the province and surrounding regions.

 Secondary Objectives

• To achieve adequate training of Service Members according to the complexity of the request.

• To carry out multidisciplinary work, decreasing the rate of complications.

• To achieve a periodic scientific update, with active participation in relevant conferences.

• To provide surgical services, using state-of-the-art technology (laparoscopic, percutaneous, acuscopic, endoscopic) which allow a better postoperative recovery.

• To carry out the development of experimental surgery.

In relation to the General operation, the Service Rules were drafted, which were updated periodically, and supervised by the Argentine Association of Surgery, an entity that has accredited the functioning of it, during two consecutive periods at national level.

The members of the service belong to the Argentine Association of Surgery (MAAC), with a specialty supported at the national level.

With respect to scientific activity, specialization and improvement of each one of them has been carried out, according to the corresponding area, in order to increase the quality and efficiency of the service offer, participating in national and international events that allowed updating of each sector.

Various works have been presented in provincial and national congresses, obtaining prizes and mentions such as "Best Scientific Works".

The supply service includes medium and high complexity surgeries with conventional, laparoscopic, accusopic and percutaneous approaches. In the last period the upper and lower diagnostic digestive endoscopy, bronchoscopy, ultrasound, and echo Doppler procedures have been incorporated.



It began its work in 2008, with the aim of offering intensive and multidisciplinary treatment that allows the comprehensive approach of patients suffering from morbid obesity, in order to improve their quality of life and expectancy.

The activities are organized in four stages:

Psychonutritional treatment: it is carried out through weekly informative workshops, which take place on Tuesday at the Auditorium Hall of the HAC, in order to work all aspects related to the disease (habits and food education, psychological disorders, body image, comorbidities , bariatric surgery, etc). Duration: 13 weeks.

At the same time, weekly weight monitoring is carried out, in order to monitor the patient's behavior during the programme and individual consultations with each of the specialties.

Physical Therapy: patients participate in a physical rehabilitation programme, developed and adapted according to the functional capacities of each individual, which are developed in the gymnasium of the Kinesiology Service of the HAC. Other related activities are also carried out, such as: AguaGym.

Bariatric Surgery: Consists of surgical interventions that modify the size of the stomach and the absorption of the intestine, with the aim of achieving a sustained decrease in the weight of the patient. Interventions are performed laparoscopically or endoscopically. They include: Gastric Sleeve, Gastric Bypass, Gastric Band and Intragastric Balloon. More than 580 interventions have been carried out.

This type of practice requires maintenance of postoperative controls for 5 years: 1 month, 3, 6, 9, 12, 15 and 18 months, and annual visits until the 5th year.

Reconstructive surgery: concerning to the reconstruction surgery of the flaps or surplus that arise after weight loss. It can be done after a year and a half of the Bariatric Surgery.
